To promote equity, understanding, and active consideration of the diverse BLS community through education, advocacy, and building deeper connections.
Our Goals
Goal 1: Provide a forum for BLS families to discuss issues of equity and diversity in a safe space
We do so through:

monthly meetings open to the BLS community to discuss issues of equity and diversity

a website to share information and resources
Goal 2: Promote a cultural shift toward a more inclusive community at BLS by planning and coordinating social and educational events to connect families to create a more welcoming environment for students and families
We do so through:

Social events to provide families opportunities to get to know and appreciate one another, including a yearly multicultural potluck for the BLS community,

Educational events to provide a forum to discuss issues of equity, diversity, implicit bias, social justice, and institutional racism, including a BLS Dialogue Speaker Series.
Goal 3: Work proactively to identify opportunities for improvement around diversity and equity at BLS and advocate for constructive change. Respond to issues through written communications or in-person meetings with administration, and propose solutions that prioritize equity.
We do so through:

Developing strong communication systems with school leadership and Parent Council to develop strong, respectful relationship working towards changing school climate related to issues of equity and diversity

Explore ways for community to advocate for students and families who are experiencing issues of bias, stereotypes, and
-
Work with school leadership to support community when issues of equity and diversity arise and communicate current work being done at BLS in the classroom to the bigger community
